Wat Phra Dhammakaya Temple
In Thailand, one may count about 40.000 temples, among which Buddhist temple Wat Phra Dhammakaya is one of the most unique. Its huge size is impressive. Despite this fact hardly anybody knows about it. The temple is located in Khlong Luang District, sixteen kilometres to the north of Don Mueang International Airport. In the centre of the temple there is a meter long golden dome, which together with the outer surface of the temple is decorated with 300 thousand gilded figures of Buddha. In addition, one can see about 700.000 figures of Buddha inside the temple. The temple complex covers the territory of 400 hectares. It consists of a chapel built in Thai style, two memorial halls, a large two-storey stadium for meditation, a large hall for meditation, Dhamma schools, various offices, conference rooms, classrooms and research centres. Rituals and meditations are held in the temple. Thousands of people come here to participate. On Sunday and during major religious holidays, about 100.000 believers visit the temple. Wat Phra Dhammakaya is home to 3000 monks, novices and lay people. Wat Phra Dhammakaya is one of the most interesting temples in Thailand.
